Synopsis
Little is known about the life of painter Ohwon (real name: Jang Seung-Ub, 1843-97), but Im imagines him as the working-class embodiment of a libidinous quest for the sublime. As played by the magnificent Choi Min-Sik (Oldboy), Ohwon roisters through a series of doomed romances and drunken acts of creation, sometimes speaking Im’s own words. Best Director prize, Cannes 2002.
