Hwang Jin Yi (2006)

Hwang Jin-i is a popular, award-winning Korean drama broadcast on KBS. The series was based on the life and loves of Hwang Jin-i, a 16th-century kisaeng (female Korean entertainer). It is written by Yoon Sun-joo and Kim Chul-kyu, starring Ha Ji Won and with a total 24 episodes.

The series is based on the life of Hwang Jin-i, the great Joseon-era poet, musician, dancer, and gisaeng, who lived during the reign of King Jungjong. The difficulties that Hwang experienced due to her social class are a focus of the series. Hwang’s first love ends tragically after Kim Eun-ho’s parents refuse to accept the relationship due to class differences. As the illegitimate daughter of a kisaeng and a nobleman, Jin-i belongs to a lower class than Eun-ho. Then, Eun ho dies of pneumonia in a futile attempt to elope with Jin-i.

This is the first Korean –traditional drama I’ve watch in the television here in the Philippines, and it’s capture my attention because the drama and the story itself has a unique characteristics and all the cast are did their part perfectly that makes the drama more interesting and intriguing to watch. It’s for all ages, and even family can watch this beautiful drama. I can say by watching this drama, it gives me idea and information about the Korean culture and tradition as well. It also has a love story and the lead character played by Ha Ji Won is amazing. She acts naturally that makes the viewer laugh, cry and smile. Even Eun – Ho (Jang Keun Suk) their love story are really good and they are match as lovers in the drama.
