Klara Min makes London debut

Klara Min
Korean-born pianist combines impassioned live performance with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Klara Min has already impressed audiences in New York and across North America, where her playing has been described as having “the most ravishing piano tone” by the American Record Guide. Having recently made her acclaimed Debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, she is now set to make her London debut at Wigmore Hall on April 23rd where she will perform an engaging programme of works by Chopin, Schumann and the UK premiere of Cursive by the American composer, Sean Hickey.

Min is also releasing her second solo CD, a selection of Chopin Mazurkas for the Delos label, due to be released in March 2013. Of the repertoire on this disc, Min said:

“I have always felt close to Chopin’s music and especially to Polish nationalistic music such as Mazurkas and Polonaise. Chopin thought of Mazurkas as his diary, and wrote them throughout his life. I felt immediately attached to this music ever since I was a child.”

Not just a passionate performer, Min is an entrepreneur, having launched the New York Concert Artists & Associates, a modern-day realization of Schumann’s Davidsbund, in 2008. The involved musicians collaborate, assisting one another with their available resources, enabling them to articulate their messages and promote their members internationally.

Also in 2013, Klara Min will be featured in We are the Woman: a project to support the United Nations’ Every Woman Every Child global healthcare initiative. We are the Woman mobilizes the global creative community to raise awareness of women’s health issues. For this they have selected women considered to be the most accomplished in a number of fields to be photographed for a book and an exhibition that will be featured in major museums across the world. Klara is one of a handful of female classical musicians selected for the project.

Since making her New York recital debut in 2002 at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall Klara Min has performed extensively throughout America and Europe, as a recital soloist and a soloist with orchestras including the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonieorchestrer Berlin, Hamburger Kammerphilharmonie, Munich Kammerphilharmonie Da Capo, Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, and Seoul Symphony Orchestra, amongst others. Her first solo recording Ripples on Water was released by Naxos in 2011 reached the official Top 100 in the Billboard Chart. The disc featured solo piano works by Korean composers.
