KUNDALINI – Asian contemporary dance and Indian classical dance performance

5141

The human being is a miniature universe. One aspect is masculine, retains a static quality and remains identified, while the other aspect is feminine, dynamic, energetic and creative. Th e feminine aspect is called KUNDALINI, which rests at the base of the spinal cord, then unites at the crown. The description of the Caduceus of Hermes is that the serpents represent positive and negative charges of KUNDALINI as it moves through the chakras and around the spine (the staff ) to the head where conscious perception occurs. It is this common concept between East and West that this Japanese practitioner of Odissi proposes to portray through her performance at The Nehru Centre.
