Memory: Things We Shouldn’t Forget

Date: 6 March 2012 – 12 March 2012
Venue: Asia House, London

An exhibition of 70 documentary photos, to commemorate one year after the events of March 11 2011 in Tohoku. The photos were taken after the earthquake by the photo department of Nikkei Inc., in the immediate aftermath and also during the ongoing recovery. Unforgettable photos, showing faithfully the real human tragedy of this cataclysmic natural disaster, and the resilience of the local people as they struggle to rebuild their lives.

This exhibition will also include a series of lectures by British and Japanese people who have devoted themselves to the recovery of Tohoku. The lectures are “Things I have seen in Tohoku” (6:30pm-8:30pm on 7 March) and Japan Foundation organised event “Japanese Art after the Disaster” (6:30pm-8:30pm on 8 March).

A memorial concert ‘Beyond The Requiem’ will also be taking place on 10th March at St John’s Wood Church
