Seoul In The City: Andersen’s Gazes

This collaboration between Lee Kyung-ok Dance Company and pop-artist Mary Kim tells the story of Hans Christian Andersen’s life through his tales. Hans Christian Andersen, famed Danish writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, is best remembered for his fairy-tales which have become a strong part of Western European culture. His stories, which include The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and The Emperor’s New Clothes, express themes that transcend age and nationality. His stories have inspired plays, ballets, and both live-action and animated films, and now the Korean company of Lee Kyung-ok will explore these tales through contemporary dance – exploring man’s multiplicity through Andersen’s stories, and through his unique gaze.
