The ATG were instrumental in fostering an appreciation for world cinema and responsible for arguably the most vibrant wave in Japanese film history. An expert panel of film historians and curators – Roland Domenig (University of Vienna), Yuriko Furuhata (McGill University) and Tony Rayns – chaired by Julian Ross (University of Leeds), will introduce the ATG season (Shinjuku Diaries) and discuss the films, their cultural impact and the meaning of independence in the shifting landscapes of the Japanese film industry.

Season supported by The Japan Foundation and The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
