Appearing in 100 concerts worldwide each year, the Tokyo String Quartet has added its first-ever Oxford date to raise money for 11 March victims of earthquake and tsunami that devastated the north-east coast of Japan. Playing in the historic setting of University Church of St. Mary the Virgin, the quartet will perform captivating masterpieces by Haydn, Szymanowski and Schumann. All proceeds go to the British Red Cross Japan Appea.

Programme:
Haydn String Quartet op.77, No. 2, in F major
Szymanowski String Quartet No. 1, op. 37, in C major
Schumann String Quartet op.41, No. 1, in A minor

“Given the high profile of the performers, it was no surprise that this BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert was a sell-out. The performances were simply sublime. This was music making of the very highest calibre, a pleasure to hear from first to last.”
