Bridges in Japan

An evening technical meeting on the subject of ‘Bridges in Japan’.

There are many natural environmental constraints and challenges to be overcome for infrastructure projects in Japan, such as special limitations, geological and topological constraints, typhoons and earthquakes. These severe constraints together with cultural and economic factors have led to unique technological developments in the field of Japanese bridge engineering, which cannot be seen elsewhere in the world (Galapagos Syndrome). This talk covers bridge engineering technologies which are unique to the country and case studies of high-profile Japanese bridge design projects in which the speaker was personally involved.

Date: 28 November 2017
