A two-day workshop and film show on Okinawa bringing together Japanese, European and North American scholars and research students. The aim is to elucidate the complexity of Okinawa, as represented in films such as Untama Giru directed by a Japanese (Okinawan) experimental film maker, Go Takamine, as well as by the analysis of these topics by social scientific and humanities specialists. The screening of Untama Giru and accompanying director’s talk and Q&A session, as well as a traditional Okinawan music performance, will be made available to a public audience.
