Venue: Southwark Playhouse, Shipwright Yard (Corner of Tooley St. & Bermondsey St.), London, SE1 2TF
Fee: £6 (over 50% discount – normally £13, Deadline for bookings: 12th February 2009)

The Japan Society has secured an allocation of tickets at a special member rate for Southwark Playhouse’s production of this Shakespearean classic. Members are also invited to attend a post-performance Q&A with the director and the rest of the creative team, followed by a chance to chat more informally over a drink in the bar. Southwark Playhouse re-imagines Shakespeare’s most magical play in Samurai Japan, bringing the mysticism of the East to the atmospheric cellars beneath London Bridge Station. Inspired by the delights of Japanese Kabuki dance, the grace of Noh theatre and the comedy of knockabout Kyogen clowns this Midsummer Night’s Dream will create a world where the charmed and the charming co-exist.
Packed into 90 minutes this production will combine vibrant verse, striking physical imagery and ensemble performances to breathe life into this most mischievous of plays. It is directed by innovative British Chinese director Jonathan Man, this year’s winner of the Better Bankside Shakespeare Award.
Please use the booking form in this booklet to reserve your place, or contact the Japan Society office on tel: 020 7828 6330 or email: events@japansociety.org.uk.
