Date: 24 August 2011 – 10 September 2011
Venue: Slack Space, Colchester

WA is a cultural exchange project in which the Japanese community of Colchester aim to share and celebrate elements of their culture with the people of the town. This event is organised in order to express gratitude to the people who supported the disaster areas. WA will feature the World Premiere of a powerful photographic exhibition, A Beacon of Rebirth, portraying the resilience of the tsunami victims in the process of reconstruction.

The photographer, Ryuichiro Baba, together with an advertising professional from Iwate prefecture, one of the most devastated areas after the disaster, he has produced photographic posters of the survivors, which are being exhibited throughout the festival. The WA Exhibition will include the original 28 posters along with 13 additional portraits taken by Baba.
